5 Things About Woodworking You May Not Have Known
Buying items from woodworkers may be as easy as pressing “order” on your device, but what about behind the scenes? Here are 5 things about woodworking that may seem surprising to our buyers.
1) Where Did Woodworking Originate?
Ancient Egyptians and Ancient Chinese were the first to practice woodworking to enhance their way of life, working with a variety of types of wood and techniques. Most of those techniques are still being used today!
2) Don’t Buy Supplies Based on Prices!!!!!!
Buying a product for woodworking based on the price can actually cost you more in the future. If the supplies you purchase aren’t good quality they can either; not work as efficiently as a more expensive version of that product or it may wear down faster, causing you to replace it more frequently.
3) Measure Twice, Cut Once
In order to get the exact measurement you want, you have to measure and mark your wood two, or more, times. If not, the final product may be bigger or smaller then what you originally wanted. Which can lead to many different problems later.
4) Think about the Thickness of the Blade
When prepping to cut your piece of wood, you have to make sure you take into account the blade’s thickness when working with a miter saw or freehand. If you cut your wood with your blade directly on your measurement mark, the width of the blade will shave off on average an eighth or a sixteenth of an inch off of your wood, making your piece smaller than intended.
5) Who Contributed to the Tools We Use Today?
The Japanese are credited with developing high-carbon steel tools. Because of this, they were able to create mesmerizing sculpted scenery today.
