Quarantine Crafts: Halloween Prepping Décor

Fall is upon us!! And you know what that means…Halloween is right around the corner. So while COVID-19 is still in fruition, Schneller&co. continues to present our customers with spooky activities to fill up the free time. This week's Quarantine Craft is Halloween décor!! Onto the project!!

Supplies:

  • 2 Wooden plaques (the ones used today were from Michael’s)

  • 1 DecoArt Acrylic Paint in the shade Purple Cow

  • 3 Apple Barrel paints in the shades Apricot, Black, and Spring Green

  • White, Rust-Oleum American Accents 2X Ultra Cover, Primer Spray

  • Various paintbrushes, in a variety of forms (all brushes used are from Artist’s Loft)

Step 1: Primer

For a cleaner application, spray the White, Rust-Oleum American Accents 2X Ultra Cover, Primer Spray onto the wooden plaques. After thoroughly coating the piece, the wood should have a white finish.

Step 2: Base Coat

Contrasting in pigments, use the shade Black for one plaque and Purple Cow for the other. The Black plaque takes two coats while Purple Cow takes 3-4 because of the Pine's absorption to the paints. Make sure to cover the wood completely.

Step 3: Detailing

In Halloween's spirit, the Purple Cow plaque was a classic bedsheet ghost with the iconic phrase "Booo!" For both the lettering and ghoul, the shade black was used as the color's contrast, for the Black plaque pumpkins scatter the wood piece with the paints Apricot(Pumpkin), Spring Green(stems), and Black(outline). The pumpkins were made by creating a heart shape at the top and slowly creating an oval shape for the bottom.

Well, there you have it!! Two equally Halloween themes home decorations can be leaned against a wall or pilot holed through and hang it on your wall. Let us at Schneller&co. know if you used these instructions to make your version. We hope you enjoyed this week's blog post of Quarantine Crafts and wish to see you again. Stay safe, wash your hands, and social distance.
